Oh, so the 5.56 has a lot more inertia, making it more deadly right?

yes the cartrige is large and has more powder in it. also its range and acurcy are better. Now if you look at the 22LR the 5.56 bullet is not much longer then the over all lenght of the 22LR (depending on what bullet is in the cartrige you use).

I would say it is about 2.5 times longer maybe a little less. But still with the extra froce from the extra inertia, the 5.56 is much more deadly than the .22LR

well if you want to take a bear down with a kill shot you would want some thing bigger then a 30.06 to be safe.

I don't know where this bear came into play lol but I was talking about a human. Also you would need something a little bigger than that. I would use a 300 winchester.

i thought the main appeal of the 5.56 cartridge was the way it tunnels end over end once it penetrates. that creates some nasty ass wounds where as a .30 variety bullet will just go through the target.

plus the smaller recoil on full auto which helps a lot with accuracy and such.

idk i think there's a push to switch to the 6.8 cartridge in some circles, not sure if it's just for the assault rifles american forces (and cops) are using or if they are thinking about trying to use it in everything....most likely the 5.56 isn't going away for a while.

the main way to tell is if/when they decide to adopt a new u.s. service rifle, if that's in a different cartridge size most of the rest will follow (especially if they switch to something that has the barrel and reciever swaps to make it a basic assualt rifle/saw/ designated marksmen weapon).

but ya guns are cool (idk where this is going lol).....

THere is a large push for the 6.8 mm cartridge and I think that it is a great caliber. A lot of PSD guns are already making the switch.

The AK47 does have a lot of recoil as compared to the M16, say. This less recoil halps in full auto accuracy, and in fire rate.
