Default PC gamers may not be the only gamers with the option to play 3D games

At a recent 3D Just Cause 2 event (keep your eyes open for the full interview later today), IncGamers learned that 3D gaming could be coming to consoles, even before the next generations are due to arrive.

Quote:
Nvidia's Bea Longworth confirmed the graphics giant was already in collaboration with Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony to bring 3D gaming to the consoles. Longworth also commented that of the three current generation consoles, the PS3 was the only one to currently support 3D gaming.

"3D Vision is actually compatible with consoles as well, and obviously Nvidia is in the PS3 already. We created the processor for the PS3. So that's definitely something that we're going to be looking at in the future - to work with manufacturers and developers."

The only stipulations are a television set which is able to produce at least 120Hz (as the technology splits the image into two 60Hz images for each eye) and drivers.

Longworth also said if those requirements were met, then it's already possible to play 3D games on the PS3.

For now though, getting those drivers on to your PS3 will be quite a bit of a hassle, especially with the current price of the rest of the kit to fork out. It's something which hardcore PC gamers might have a rig ready for, and would be worth it as there are around 400 games which are backwards compatible with the kit on the PC.

And is it really worth it? Well, yes. You have to play it to appreciate it. This really isn't just another gimmick, but I wish the technology was available now.

3D vision has been on console for a while.
I used to have the first gen. PSP [PSP 1000] and it had Metal Gear ACID + 3D glasses.
It's not really new to consoles.

I see a difference between the 3D and non-3D, but I think it's a little pointless until it actually gets applied to newer technology... It's just not as good until it becomes the norm.

3D was easily done even back in the early 90's, but it was only thanks to the oldschool TV's with their retro tube. No thanks to the LCD/Plasma TV's which haulted the progress of 3D technology by about a decade or 2. The old TV's had a higher hertz range (or better hertz cant remember exactly) then those of LCD/Plasma TV's. (I read this somewhere a couple of years ago.) Its not only till recently that HDTV capable TV's with 3D support are only starting to rise to the mass market. I think the first batch of 3D HDTV's came from Samsung.

Now that the TV tech has advanced enough to get back to the 3D track. Personally I would be weary. Sure you gotta use stupid glasses but I have a good feeling that it will only be a matter of time before you can view 3D without any eyewear at the comfort of your only living room.

why not just put lazers on the PS3 that shoot them at you and create the affects like they do at lazer light shows?

Why would you want to play Just Cause 2 in any dimension?

I actually heard it was a really good game.
Why don't you like it? Curious.

I wouldn't mind giving it a try.
I just don't care too much for 3D used on our current household technology.

I'm also going to have to replace my PS3 anyways, because over the years it has collected so much dust and animal hair-- either that or I'll just get an attachable "Intercooling" system for it. But for now I don't have the money to spend on the standard non-3D game itself so it's a no for me.
